About the role:
Mercor is partnering with a top AI research lab on a Frontier Code Agents project. You will use AI coding agents (like Cursor, Claude Code, or Codex) to complete and evaluate complex engineering tasks. This is about evaluating AI, not traditional software development.
What you will do:
- Use frontier AI coding agents to complete complex engineering tasks
- Review model-generated code for correctness, quality, and performance
- Identify bugs, edge cases, and failure modes in AI outputs
- Compare outputs from multiple frontier models
- Apply professional engineering judgment to real backend scenarios
What you need:
- 2+ years of professional backend engineering experience
- Experience building APIs, distributed systems, microservices, or databases
- Regular use of AI coding agents like Cursor, Claude Code, Codex, Windsurf, or Gemini CLI
- Ability to evaluate code and identify bugs, edge cases, and architectural tradeoffs
Nice to have (but not required):
- Experience working on large-scale production systems
How compensation works:
- $400 per accepted task
- Typical task takes 2โ3 hours after ramp-up
- Compensation is tied to accepted work (quality matters)
